Bilan Carbone^® method

The development of human activities is increasing the greenhouse effect, which has led to global climate change. The international community now recognizes the magnitude of the problem and is planning measures to combat this phenomenon.

The Bilan Carbon^® method

The Bilan Carbone® method is a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions assessment tool. It can be used to account for the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of all types of organisation : industrial or tertiary companies, administrations or local authorities.

What is the Bilan Carbon^® method ?

The first stage of any strategy for greenhouse gas emissions reduction is to catalogue all emissions associated within the organisation or community’s activities.

The ADEME has developed the Bilan Carbone® method for this purpose. If the project is accepted, they will subsidise the costs by 50% (in France).

The Bilan Carbone® takes into account all of the emissions associated directly with an activity, but also the secondary emissions caused indirectly by such activity.

ECO2 Inititative has been trained by the ADEME to carry out the Bilan Carbone®. 5 ECO2 consultants are certified and 2 are Bilan Carbon ^® trainers for Ademe.

In order to fit specificities of your organization, we have developed our own specially adapted tools for the collection and assessment of data such as the following :

• tertiary activity (single- or multi-site)
• industry
• transport networks and infrastructure
• agriculture
• communities and their territories (using the ADEME’s ’Collectivités’ method)

Why carry out the Bilan Carbone® ?

• To identify the areas which emit the greatest quantity of greenhouse gazes in order to define the best reduction strategy
• To reduce the costs of energy consumption
• To anticipate and counter-balance the risks of energy price increases and taxes on greenhouse gas emissions
• To participate in one of the major challenges facing us in the future : the battle against climate change

Actions taken following the Bilan Carbone® can enable :

• A reduction by up to 30% of heating and air-conditioning consumption
• A 50% reduction of paper consumption
• A 25% reduction in travel
• A 20% reduction of fuel consumption across a fleet of vehicles
